Abandoned Dog Tries To Find Owners For Three Years
After three years on the run an abandoned dog named Dolly finally has a new home.
Chris Smith, a Calera, Alabama animal control officer finally caught up with Dolly at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Alabama 25 in Calera, after a lengthy pursuit.
Getting Her Off The Street
Dolly, a tan mixed breed dog, was known for wandering around Calera’s Waterford subdivision and Kensington Manor apartments. “It felt good to be able to get her off the street and get her to a good home,” Smith said. And the good home he is referring to? His own. Smith and his wife Carla said that after hearing her heartbreaking story they wanted to know she was home for good.
When Dolly’s previous owners, who lived in the Waterford subdivision faced foreclosure, they were forced to move and abandoned her. “A neighbor said that for three years Dolly came back to the yard where she had been left,” Carla said.
They Never Did Return
She came back for three years to see if they would return for her, but they never did. The devoted dog recently left the Waterford area, wandering through Calera, where Smith found her. Smith says she will only know love and safety in her new home.
“We will never leave her,” Carla Smith said. “She is family.”
Dolly is being treated for a number of ailments at the Calera Animal Hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
