And The Winner Is…
Guinness Book of World Records has named Harbor, a black-and-tan Coonhound, the dog with the longest ears on the planet. His left ear measures 12¼in while the right ear is longer at 13½in. The Coonhound was bred to hunt racoons and the long ears are said to help by sweeping scents towards the nose.
Always Tripping Over Them As A Puppy
Harbor has had a lifelong struggle with his gigantic ears, always tripping over them as a puppy and even rolling down the stairs. But now, Harbor has grown into them and his colossal ears have made him a celebrity.
Owner Jennifer Wert, of Boulder, Colorado, said, “Cars will literally stop in the street to take a closer look and get a picture. Most days I forget how oddly long his ears are. He’s a phenomenon in the world and he creates smiles wherever we go.”
His Ears Are Bigger Than Some Dogs
Harbor takes the title from Tigger, a bloodhound from Illinois, who ears measured 13.5in. Sadly Tigger passed away from old age two years ago.
According to Guinness World Records 2012, Harbor’s ear-span is longer than the height of the world’s shortest man, Junrey Balawing, who is 23.5 inches tall. You could also comfortably fit world’s shortest dog, Brandy, 6 inch also from the US, on each one of Harbor’s ears twice.
